Kate Woodall (BA)

I am an expressive art therapy facilitator and a health and wellness coordinator. I have a BA in Criminology and 3 years of expressive art therapy training. I am a dancer, visual artist and I use written word and performance art to express myself, build confidence, resilience and heal. My passion is using expressive art in my own life and introducing others to the powerful healing powers of creativity. Expressive art is an inner journey and one that takes courage. As an art therapy facilitator I am merely a witness and hold a safe space for others to discover and explore an expressive art journey. There is this inner knowing and if given a chance, creativity will provide a wealth of healing. Only you know your body, spirit and life story.

During my own personal healing journey, I discovered creativity as a therapeutic process. This led to 3 years of expressive art therapy training. Before that I completed a bachelors degree in Criminology degree from Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, British Columbia. This led me down a path, which had nothing to do with art therapy or being an artist. But has influenced the creation of Organized Chaos, helping people with alcohol/drug addiction and struggling with mental health challenges. I have facilitated multiple programs in prisons, addiction treatment centers, senior’s homes and hospitals. I was also a probation officer and worked for Elizabeth Fry society at a woman’s Halfway House. I have also worked at a homeless shelter where there was a safe injection site, which showed me how serious the Opioid crisis has become. I want to make a difference and be part of the solution in helping others find recovery from drugs and alcohol addiction and finding a better quality of life. Learning how to have healthier coping skills using creativity. This has all led to my dream to help others find healthy outlets to express their traumas and find ways to heal their soul wounds.

I attended the expressive art therapy certificate at Langara College, Vancouver, British Columbia and completed level 1 and 2 at the Prairie Institute of Expressive Art Therapy in Calgary, Alberta.

I have specialized training to facilitate expressive art therapy programs with seniors with Dementia. The specialized training, Opening Minds through Art (OMA) facilitation training, I received from Miami University and the practicum supervised by the Alzheimer’s society of Calgary, Alberta. I facilitated my own expressive art therapy program, “Young at heART” for 2.5 years in the Geriatric Inpatient Mental Health Unit, at Rockyview Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. I also facilitated several art therapy based programs and recreation programs within seniors care homes.
